Maiden sail
We got the call: ready to go sailing?
It was time for our first seaworthiness test. Representatives from Balance, mast manufacturer Sparcraft, and sail manufacturer Ullman were taking Catalyst out for her first sail — joined, of course, but her fearless crew of Captain Dunbar Lewis, crewman Dave Strahl, Pete, and myself.
It was yet another gorgeous day in Cape Town’s Table Bay. The winds were light (~7 knots), yet we were able to test the mainsail, jib, and screacher, at times reaching speeds greater than 6 knots! The boat and rigging behaved as spec’d, checking the box for our first trial and thrilling us with the promise of more to come!
