Exploring Cape Town
We have fallen in love with Cape Town
While we didn’t plan to spend 2+ months here when we arranged our travel, we cannot imagine a better place to be “stuck” while Catalyst is being completed.
Cape Town’s habitants are incredibly friendly, the food is delicious, the prices are affordable, and there’s so much to do and enjoy. It’s winter here in South Africa, but the weather in Cape Town has been quite pleasant, with daytime highs in the 60’s and 70’s and only a handful of rainy days. Table Mountain towers over the city, appearing sometimes benign and other times threatening with storm clouds billowing over its massive plateau.
Our introduction to the city was a whirlwind, thanks to our daughter Tasha. She joined us here at the start of our stay, armed with recommendations from her South African coworkers back in London. Gourmet meals, rooftop cocktails, a death-defying hike up Table Mountain, and wine tasting in Stellenbosch – Tasha helped immediately immerse us in all things Cape Town. Balance Catamarans also contributed to our inauguration, providing us an incredible peninsula tour complete with visiting Cape of Good Hope (the southwesternmost tip of South Africa) and viewing the adorable African penguins.
Since then, we’ve continued to explore and be enamored with all the city has to offer – oftentimes in the company of fellow Balance owners. We’ve enjoyed breathtaking (in steepness and in vistas) hikes up the hills surrounding the city, amazing golf courses with views of the city on one side and crashing waves on the other, bike rides along the beautiful coastline topped with oceanside lunches, sunset boat tours, and more. We even took in an international rugby match!
Cape Town is unique enough to remind us that we’re in a new country, but its welcoming, English-speaking populace, metropolitan feel, and stunning landscapes make it incredibly easy to assimilate and adore. Add a visit to Cape Town to your bucket list — you won’t be sorry!
