Boston!
After countless times flying into Boston, it was so cool to approach the city by sea!
We navigated into Boston Harbor through the slew of outlying islands, with Boston’s skyline evident in the distance and commercial jets bound for Logan Airport flying overhead.
The winds were forecast to be light the following day, so our Boston friends rallied for a late afternoon sail just hours after our arrival. They came bearing appetizers, drinks, and a multitude of boxes our friend Mary had graciously agreed to have delivered to her home (it’s difficult to receive Amazon shipments when you’re constantly on the move!).
We had a beautiful late afternoon/early evening sail, catching up with dear friends. As dusk descended, we picked up a mooring at the Boston Waterboat Marina, with Boston’s financial district and Fanueil Hall as our backdrop. Amazingly, we ran into fellow cruisers, Scots Anne and Stuart on Time Bandit, in the same small mooring field! We’d met them in Cape Town, saw them again in Grenada, and were thrilled to reunite with them once more.
Sunday dawned sunny and beautiful. We toured the Boston waterfront by dinghy, with Mary acting as our local tour guide. After a walk on Boston’s Freedom Trail (the Holocaust Memorial is heart-wrenchingly beautiful), a lovely Italian dinner at Boston’s North End, and a quick coffee and walk with my friend Joanne the next morning, we sadly waved goodbye to Boston. It was far too brief a visit, but we had a date for some dinghy warranty work just outside of Newport, RI. We set off to traverse the Cape Cod Canal and head south.
